ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT
UNM Economic empowerment program
The UNM Economic Empowerment Program operates in Rwamagana and Rubavu, targeting youth and families of former street-connected children to eradicate extreme poverty, with plans to expand. It equips rural young farmers with modern agricultural skills, helping them shift from subsistence to business-oriented farming. Through training, mentorship, and cooperatives, participants develop financial literacy, entrepreneurship skills, and access to the market. It promotes self-reliance, gender equality, and boosts rural economies and livelihoods.
Youth empowerment
Youth Empowerment aims to create employment opportunities for rural young adults who are unemployed, reducing their vulnerability to risky behaviour. It focuses on building their confidence and fostering self-reliance through agricultural activities, equipping them with the necessary skills to view farming as a viable business rather than just a means of survival. Promoting modern farming techniques, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship enables youth to generate sustainable incomes, support their families, and contribute to rural economic growth.
Family Empowerment (FBE)
The Family Business for Education initiative empowers parents, particularly those of former street-connected children, to take financial responsibility for their children's education. It offers training in business-oriented activities, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy, enabling families to establish sustainable income sources. Additionally, the program promotes savings practices specifically aimed at funding children's education, ensuring long-term stability and self-reliance for both parents and their children
